PCP Episode 060: Reality TV

25 Dec

Well, this turned into the hate Kim Kardashian hour very quickly. Then it turned into bash Jersey Shore with PCP. Yeah, we turned into grumpy old men more than Audie on a daily basis. This was a show that we kept loose and just have a catty time, like a bunch of skanks, talking about people that we don’t know. We talk the gambit of the genre including what’s wrong with whipper-snappers, some of the worst shows and the ones we’re guilty of watching. What are some of your favorites and, more importantly, are you having a happy holiday?

PCP’s Weekly Dose: Sherlocke Holmes 2 Review

24 Dec

Sorry about the lateness folks. We all needed to get our ducks in a row for you, the fans, so that you could have your PCP for the holidays. Sorry about the deception though because we only talk about Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows for a brief few minutes this time. We go old school and have a review that gets encompassed into a general discussion. This time, we are going to review 2011. What’s that mean? Pretty much anything we can think of. We are running down what each of us liked and disliked in the year. Movies, TV, video games, comics, anime, music, books, sports, commercials, sandwiches and whatever else we can think of. We talk of what excites us in 2012 and ask you all to tell us the same. Also, what would you like to hear in Episode 069? Stay tuned for 060: Reality Television to post very soon

Marcus Reviews Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

24 Dec

The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization’s name and stop a nuclear war between Russia and the US in the process.

Things I Liked:

Mission Impossible is a series that benefits from having movies that stand alone while each having something that ties them to the previous ones. Because of this people that have watched the others feel rewarded while people new to the franchise can still enjoy this as its own movie.

Brad Bird has a reputation for crafting well thoughtout and enjoyable films that balance brains, heart and spectacle pretty seamlessly. Ghost Protocol definitely benefits from his expertise as Bird gives the film a simple yet effective plot that not only adds some urgency to the action but gives the movie as a whole more purpose.

You never really go to see popcorn action films for the acting but its important that the characters are likable and Ghost Protocol succeeds in that department. Cruise, Pegg, Patton and Renner (who’s playing a goofier character than he usually does in this) are all great individually but because of their natural chemistry they’re irresistible together. I guarantee that you will laugh at least once from one of their group conversations.

Can I just say that Paula Patton looks scrumptious in this. I literally salivated a couple of times lol.

As in every Mission Impossible before it the gadgets and action sequences in Ghost Protocol were ridiculously over the top but that didn’t stop me from enjoying every one of them lol. The sandstorm scene in particular was truly a sight to behold. I’m actually really curious how they shot that, must’ve been a bitch.

Things I Didn’t Like:

I can’t help but feel like this movie was more suited for the summer. It just feels odd to go see it in the winter time but that’s not really a flaw.

Honestly nothing really comes to mind here. It’s not gonna win any fine arts awards but as far as action films go this is pretty top notch.

As it stands Ghost Protocol is the best MI movie since the original (debateably even better than that one) thanks to Bird’s tight direction, a smart but easy to follow plot, great chemistry from the cast and engaging action throughout. If over the top shenanigans aren’t really your cup of tea then Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is out but otherwise do yourself a favor, get some friends together and have a blast with this. I give Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol an A.

PCP Episode 059: Guy Ritchie

14 Dec

Amazingly, we managed to get through this entire episode without some “I’m not your buddy, guy…I’m not your I’m not your guy, friend” jokes. It’s understandable with Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows coming out this week. We take this opportunity to continue our profile series on notable directors. We get into the mind of the man, avoid that chick he was with and delve into his filmography. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, RocknRolla and all of his other major releases get the PCP overview. What are your favorite offerings from  the former Mr. Madonna ? Also, what is some of your favorite cockney slang? Yep, things degenerate in the closing minutes due to limey foolishness. Those that heard PCP Episode 022: British Telly surely saw this coming.

PCP Episode 058: Fighting Games

8 Dec

We like fighting games. Well, most of us like fighting games around these parts. Hard to explain what it is, but there’s something about beating the crap out of someone that really does it for us. Whether it’s a mainstay like Street Fighter, a simulator like Virtua Fighter, something weapons-based like Soul Blade/Calibur or more out there like Bloody Roar or Primal Fury, we recount it here.  We discuss some of our favorites, notable characters and the problem with the genre as whole and engage in inappropriate humor as usual. Be sure to tell us your favorite games, characters and attacks too. Oh, and Marcus wants to know why do they call it “stool”? Download

PCP Episode 057: Naruto

6 Dec

The clan has been reunited! While this usually rings bells of fear unto the black community, this time it’s just terrorizing nerd-kind. The PCP crew is five-deep again as we discuss Naruto. We discuss the long-running Shonen series and take an in-depth, joke-filled look at the characters of the popular anime. Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Killer Bee’s black foolishness and more are all on the docket. We’ve got jokes, discussion and distracting comments about the TV on in the background that no one will get . Plus we rip on each other. That’s always fun to hear. Be sure to tell us your favorite characters (unless it’s Sasuke) and some of your favorite parts of the series. Right-click to Download

PCP Episode 056: Legend of Zelda

1 Dec

HEY! Listen! As any true gamer knows, we are upon the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda and the release of the latest entry in the franchise: Skyward Sword. It’s been a long road for the elfin hero of Hyrule as we recount the franchise and our experiences with it. We talk how and where we get our starts, some of favorite moments and all of the major releases (and that one Phillips CDi game). Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princes and more are on the docket. But we have a question to pose: who’d win in a fight between Link and Raiden from Metal Gear? Just curious.
